Inbound Transportation Management


Problem:

A retail customer came to Salem Logistics Traffic Services with a problem with visibility and a lack of vendor control. They were unable to manage their inbound transportation and needed help communicating with their vendors. 

Solution:

Salem Logistics approached this problem from an information-gathering perspective. Incomplete and inaccurate information was causing many of the customer’s problems. Salem created a PO management system and began proactive vendor communication to improve compliance. As an added customer benefit, Traffic Services created an exception management process for management. These new processes along with real-time web availability and other visibility tools eliminated many of the errors and allowed for increased control and visibility for the customer. 

Results:

After the first year of the partnership, Salem Logistics Traffic Services was able to save the customer 25% on transportation costs.
